Greetings, friends who are writers or interested in the Inklings or both! I’d like to invite you to one or two new endeavors I’m getting going. Here’s the info:
1. You may know that I wrote and recorded an Audible Original on the life and works of C.S. Lewis for The Teaching Company; I now have the honor of creating one of The Great Courses, this time on the Inklings as a group. It will be a full-length video course, and I’m writing the lectures now and will record in September. And guess what? While researching at the Bodleian and the Wade for these talks, I’ve discovered that many things we thought we knew about the Inklings need to be corrected, so I’ll share those facts in this course.
Well, YOU have a chance to get in on the secret early! I’m opening up sessions for all my *monthly* supporters at any level to sit in and give feedback while I practice the rough drafts and polish them up for final submission. If you’re already a patron, I’ll automatically add you to the google calendar invitations (and please note that these will replace my regular Author’s Circle meetings for the summer). If you’re not yet a patron, please visit my membership page to sign up as a monthly supporter now. The dates and times are listed here below (all in the U.S. eastern time zone); they’re varied to accommodate different schedules and global locations.
- Monday, May 12th, 10am: Lecture #1, “Welcome to an Inklings”
- Tuesday, May 20th, 11am: Lecture #2, Biography, commonalities, differences [need a title]
- Wednesday, May 28th, 2pm: Lecture #3, “The Meaning Hidden Inside Ordinary Things”
- Thursday, June 5th, 12pm: Lecture #4, “The Lewis Brothers and Joy”
- Friday, June 13th, 10am: Lecture #5, “Tolkien and Mythopoeia”
- Thursday, June 19th, 6pm: Lecture #6, More Mythopoeia [titles tentative from here on]
- Monday, June 23rd, 3pm: Lecture #7, Barfield & Metaphor
- Tuesday, July 1st, 4pm: Lecture #8, Phase One & Walking Tours
- Wednesday, July 9th, 6:15pm: Lecture #9, Phase Two: Williams & Co-inherence
- Thursday, July 17th, 3pm: Lecture #10, Phase Three: post-WWII
- Monday, July 21st, 12pm: Lecture #11, Guests, Associates, & Outsiders
- Friday, August 1st, 10:30am: Lecture #12, “After the Inklings”
I hope this will be a rich, engaging, welcoming course for both newcomers to the subject and those with some knowledge–so I’d love to have a wide range of friends attend these sessions to help me get the tone just right. Will you join me?
2. The next opportunity is that I’m trying to set up “Writing in the Wyrdhoard” regular virtual co-writing sessions. These would be voice or video chats during which we greet, set goals, then write-write-write for two hours. I’ll provide regular reminders and encouragement as we go, and participants will also have access to an asynchronous Discord server where you can ask for help, solicit beta readers, and share success stories. If you’re interested, please use this Doodle poll to indicate availability, and I’ll follow up with an invitation to Discord.
I hope to see you online in some authorial capacity soon. Happy writing!
